WIP Wednesday: Socks

 Back to knitting socks!

I'm working on a pair of vanilla self striping socks. These are Neeley's Knits Sparkle sock in Wicked inspired Galinda color way. I love these so much. They are so pretty and girly.

I'm also working on my Harry Potter Inspired Care of Magical Creatures (based on Hagrid) color way. I've been rewatching Harry Potter movies, so it's fun to knit on these socks as I watch the movies. The pattern is Gridirion from Knitspot. I think this pair is turning out lovely as well.

Oh! Canada

Pattern: Oh! Canada designed by Knitspot

Yarn: Madelinetosh Tosh Pashmina in Celadon

Needles: US Size 7

Started on: June 1st

Finished on: July 25th

Comments: This was fun to knit. The pattern wasn't too difficult. This is one of the lovely precious yarns I've been saving in my stash. It's a merino silk cashmere blend. You really can't go wrong with Madelinetosh yarns. It was dreamy to work with. The pattern and yarn work well together.

I'm most proud of my join in the middle. That was the slowest and most difficult part of the shawl for me to get it to look seamless.

The yarn shows the stitches really well. It's so lovely. I'm going to keep this one for myself.

Princess Celestia Socks

Pattern: My own plain vanilla socks

Yarn: Neeley's Knits Sparkle Sock My Little Pony Inspired Princess Celestia

Needles: US Size 2 DPNs

Started on: July 3rd

Finished on: July 22nd

Comments: These should have/would have been done sooner, but it's been so hot and I haven't been picking my needles up quite as often as I usually do. Glad that these are done! They don't match, but I'm okay with that. Besides these socks are for me. I love this colorway and the sparkles! Oooh, sparkles! I enjoy knitting with the sparkles, to say the least. heh. I'm really itching to cast on a new shawl or something lace... We'll see where the needles take me. Oh wait, I still have a bunch of WIPs, I guess I should finish some up before starting something new.

WIP Wednesday on a Thursday

Yesterday got away from me, so here's my weekly update.

I picked up my Oh Canada wrap again. I've competed 5 repeats on the second half. So I have 4 more repeats to knit then I'll be done!

There's been some progress on my Princess Celestia socks, but not too much. I'm almost done with the first sock.

Garter Rib Socks

Pattern: Garter Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks

Yarn: Neeley's Knits Sparkle Sock Superman Inspired Yarn of Steel

Needles: US Size 2 DPNs

Started on: June 30th

Finished on: July 10th

Comments: This was my first time knitting the cuff, heels, and toes in a different yarn from the rest of the sock. The only bother is all the extra ends that need to be woven in. On the other hand it makes it much easier to match the stripes. This was my first time using Sparkly sock yarn. It adds a little ooomph to the socks. This is another pair for me. I know at some point I'll give a pair of socks I knit in Neeley's Knits yarn to my Mom, but so far I've been keeping them all for me. I love this yarn too much to give them away.

WIP Wednesday: Turning the Heel

I'm turning the heel on not one, but TWO socks!

The first is my Garter Rib socks in the Superman inspired Yarn of Steel colorway. And the second is the My Little Pony inspired Princess Celestia colorway. My favorite part of sock knitting, aside from finishing a pair, is turning the heel and the gusset decrease. It's the point where the knitting actually takes the shape of a sock instead of just a tube. It never ceases to make me feel clever that I can turn a heel. Also it's great because it feels like it's the halfway point of knitting the sock. And everything after it seems to go much quicker and smoother.

Pattern: My own plain vanilla socks

Yarn: Neeley's Knits Super Sock in Powerpuff Girls colorway

Needles: US Size 2 DPNs

Started on: Jun 28th

This has been my most productive month all year.

In total, I used up 4.5 balls of yarn/ 1,980 yards of yarn.

WIP Wednesday: Stripes

All the socks I'm knitting are with self-striping yarn.

Here's the first pair of socks I cast on for the new 26 PP challenge. It's Powerpuff Girls yarn colorway from Neeley's Knits. I love this colorway. I forgot how much fun self-striping yarn is. I'm already on the second sock. It's knitting up so quickly because I get excited seeing new stripes emerging.

The other sock I'm working on is the Superman. I just started this one, so I'm still working on the leg of the first sock. The pattern is Garter Rib from the Sensational Knitted Socks book. The pattern is easy to memorize.
