Elizabeth Shawl

Pattern: Elizabeth Shawl

Yarn: The Periwinkle Sheep Wink Lace in Thunderstorm

Needles: US Size 4

Started on: June 17th

Finished on: June 28th

Comments/Modifications: This is my first project finished for the basket dash. It's also my "E" for my Lace A-Z project. I love the color of this yarn. It's also got pretty sparkly silver bits throughout the shawl. The pattern was straightforward and intuitive to knit, even though I had to refer to the charts constantly. The shawl pattern is also nice as it doesn't have many repeating charts. This helps to keep things interesting. I really love the size it turned out to be. There was a little bit of a nail biter at the end as I was beginning to worry that I might run out of yarn. Luckily that didn't happen, I also love feeling like I used up as much of the ball of yarn as possible (without running out). I love this shawl and can't wait to wear it.

Basket Dash

Stash Knit Down group on Rav is having a Basket Dash from July 1st to Aug 31st. The goal is to fill a basket with yarn or WIPs that you want to complete over the course of the two months. Then knit solely from the basket until all the projects are complete.

1) Elizabeth Shawl - I just finished Chart 6 out of 8. This is my primary knitting right now. This is so close to being done I can taste it! I love this Periwinkle Sheep Wink Lace yarn. It's hard to see in this photo but there are little sparkly bits in it.

2) One Row Handspun scarf - This is my mindless knitting project. It knits up super quickly when it gets worked on. This is Cascade 220 yarn.

3) Romney Kerchief shawl - This is also using Cascade 220 yarn from 2006. I am halfway done with this shawl as I've already used up the first ball of yarn. This also goes pretty quickly when I actually work on it. I memorized the pattern for this already.

4) Leaf Evolution - I'll probably work on this one once the Elizabeth shawl is done. This is using leftover yarn from when I knit the Norwegian Woods shawl a few years ago. The yarn is Blue Moon Fiber Arts Laci in Bleck.

5) Fall Line Scarf - This requires some concentration and I have to rely on looking at the chart. This knits up fairly quickly as it's DK weight and there's only 150 yards per skein of yarn. This yarn is Malabrigo Silky Merino. It's super soft and feels like knitting with butter.

6) Morning Glory Stole - I haven't worked on this at all. I think this will be the last project I work on out of the six. I love this Kent DK yarn, it's my favorite out of all the Bare Naked Wool yarns I've tried. I also have a thing for neutral colors now.

WIP Wednesday: Chugging Along

Elizabeth Shawl - This is my "E" for my Lace A-Z project. This has been taking most of my attention. It's been awhile since I've used lace weight yarns, I forget how slow it can be. I really like the colors and I think it will turn out well.

One Row Handspun Scarf
- This is one of my oldest stash from 2006. This is growing slowly, but surely.

FO Friday: Dinner in the Eiffel Tower

Pattern: Dinner in the Eiffel Tower

Yarn: Madelinetosh Tosh DK in Denim

Needles: US Size 7

Started on: June 6th

Finished on: June 17th

Comments/Modifications: This shawl is my "D" for my Lace A-Z project. I knit this pattern using size 7 needles instead of the recommended size 6. I wanted the shawl to be a bit larger than the pattern size. This was a fun knit. It had some mindless knitting sections as well as some sections that required concentration. I love the yarn and pattern combination.

WIP Wednesday: Shawls

I pulled out my Leaf Evolution from hibernation and started to work on it again. I really do like working with this BMFA Laci yarn. It comes in pretty colors and is easy to work with without the yarn feeling too thin.

I also re-started my Elizabeth Shawl using The Periwinkle Sheep in Wink Lace in Thunderstorm. I made an error in it awhile back so it went into timeout. I ended up having to frog the whole thing and re-started it yesterday.

WIP Wednesday

I started my Dinner in the Eiffel Tower Shawl last week. This is my "D" for my Lace A-Z Project. The pattern is broken up into sections. I just started Section 4 out of 7. I'm enjoying knitting this. Some sections have mindless knitting and others you have to pay careful attention to. It's nice to have a good mix. The yarn I'm using is Madelinetosh Tosh DK in Denim. I love this color, I think it can pair nicely with most of my clothing and of course, goes well with jeans.

Caliz

Pattern: Caliz from Romi Hill

Yarn: A Verb For Keeping Warm Metamorphosis in Sugar Jets

Needles: US Size 8

Started on: May 28th

Finished on: June 2nd

Comments/Modifications: This is my "C" for my Lace A-Z project. I knit this pattern as is. It was a really quick knit. This yarn was originally from the 2011 Cookie A sock club. I didn't like the color at first, but it's growing on me.  The second photo shows the true color of the shawl. The yarn is a merino silk blend that feels quite sturdy and has a nice shine to it.

WIP Wednesday

It's Wednesday again! Here are my WIPs - most of them are wonderful mindless knitting.

1) Elektra - I love this yarn so much. It's Madelinetosh Tosh sock in Wellwater. This is my first time using this yarn, even though I have a bunch in my stash. I love Madelinetosh colorways. This one reminds me of water and summertime. I have the orange stitch marker in the project to help me keep track of which side is the right side as I'm knitting the garter stitch portion of the shawl.

2) Romney Kerchief - I'm making progress on this! I have the pattern memorized so it's going a lot faster. I finished the first skein of yarn already!

3) One Row Handspun - I'm so confident in my progress on the Romney Kerchief shawl, I decide to start my second 2006 yarn. This is also Cascade 220 worsted yarns. I have no idea why I bought this yarn originally. It's not my color at all and has never been a color I would wear. It's far too bright for my taste. Even this photo does not show all of it's brightness. This one will probably go either to charity or to the gift box once it's finished.

May Stats

This has been my best knitting month all year long! I knit up 9 skeins of yarn/ 2,215 yards. I finished knitting up 4 shawls! I can't imagine that I will have a better knitting month all year long!
